How I Arrived In August

The limerencing nights, the expected morning, every sunset to moonrise, compartmentalized in my mind.

Flowers fall, embroidered by the scent of it all. No sign of rain, no omen of you, just whispers of the sun breaking through.

Beneath the tree’s cove, white butterflies were shown, split at morning’s light, finding each other, free of spite.

Wind to caress, the forever sun-kissed dress. Close to feeling, far to set. Clouds distanced, afraid to touch, kind, soft, gentle, in a way that’s too much.

The green amulet that rests on your chest, as you lay on my shoulder, at rest, leaned in close, a kiss softly expressed, in a love so deep, beautifully obsessed, faded by morning’s gentle request.

With the leaves that fall before me as this chapter comes to a close, you’ve brought hope in an empty world.

I hope to stay, but that’s what I said in May. To lose what I held, a trying test, perhaps, in time, it’s for the best.

I’m choosing to confess, you were the best one yet. To write too much or too less, I shouldn’t stress. You brought me words to digest, and quotes that helped me process the rest.

Thank you for a lovely summer, a time well spent. If only you had truly known what it meant.
